The University of South Alabama seeks to become an “All-Steinway School,” meaning that students receive instruction exclusively on Steinway pianos. South is committed to excellence in music education and strives to join more than 200 institutions of distinction across the globe that display the All-Steinway School symbol. To receive this designation, 90% of South’s acoustic pianos must be Steinway & Sons, Boston or Essex pianos, and the University must have an approved maintenance program in place.

Four Key Advantages to an All-Steinway Designation

▼   Performance Quality

As an All-Steinway School, South will strengthen and enhance overall performance quality by:

  • providing students with the best instruments possible for the study of music.
  • satisfying the high expectations of piano faculty.
  • enhancing the performance levels of piano students.
  • having a positive effect on national accreditations.
  • giving students an edge in competitions.
▼   New Student and Faculty Recruitment
Earning the All-Steinway designation would provide the University with an advantage in recruiting students and faculty into its music program. Having the gold standard of pianos would allow South’s music department to recruit and retain a larger number of students, higher quality of students, international students, and students in other music concentrations who are not specifically piano majors. Having the Steinway designation would be a huge advantage in recruiting new music faculty to join the department.
▼   Return on Investment
Becoming an All-Steinway School would be an appreciating asset to facilities on campus. Pianos are a key component to students achieving musical excellence. Through a variety of degree programs at South, pianos provide students the opportunity to grow as performers. From the practice studio and recital halls at South, graduates move on to perform on stages across the world. Steinways are known for their longevity, craftsmanship and incomparable sound quality. Support South Alabama and invest in the All-Steinway Initiative today.
▼   Reputation
The Steinway brand is known for excellence and has a reputation for being the gold standard of pianos. Similarly, the University of South Alabama strives to be the “Flagship of the Gulf Coast” with a reputation of excellence in education, research and healthcare.
