French Colonies in America

Between Verrazano's visit to the Atlantic coastline in 1524 and the end of the Seven Years War in 1763, the French colonized or visited nearly every corner of North America. You can visit many of their sites, either in person as a tourist or via the Web. Here are some of our favorites.

Cahokia Courthouse, Cahokia, Illinois

Fort de Chartres III, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois

Fort St. Jean-Baptiste, Natchitoches, Louisiana

Fort Michilimackinac, Michigan

Fort Toulouse, Wetumpka, Alabama

Fortress of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia

La Pointe-Krebs House, Pascagoula, Mississippi
