Biohazardous Shipping Category A

How to Utilize this Training:

The training contained on this web page will certify you to package Category A Infectious Substances. Such training is only necessary if you intend to ship bio-hazardous materials that will ship under the UN2814 classification. The classification is defined as an infectious substance in a form capable of causing permanent disability or life-threatening or fatal disease in otherwise healthy humans or animals when exposure to it occurs. At the conclusion of the training module, you will be tested and a certificate will be issued verifying your training.

If you are simply looking to ship substances transported for diagnostics or investigational purposes then you will need to review the Category B (UN3373) guidance document. Shipping those items does not require certification. Category B is defined as an infectious substance that is not in a form generally capable of causing permanent disability or life-threatening or fatal disease in otherwise healthy humans or animals when exposure to it occurs.

Directions:

Upon entering the module, you will guide yourself through a series of training slides on shipping bio-hazardous material. A history of regulations, governing agencies, shipping divisions, packing/shipping/and freight forwarding information is included.

At the conclusion of the slides, you will be administered an exam on the material. You may guide yourself through the slides at your own pace and in multiple sittings, however, once you begin the exam it is best to complete it in one sitting.

Once you have completed the exam, print out the score report and return it to Jennifer Chaplin in CSAB 128. Upon receipt and verification, a certification will be issued. YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION WITH THE EXAM REPORT!

During the exam, you are free to utilize reference material and notes that you might have taken.

Please direct any questions to Jennifer Chaplin, CSAB 128, (251) 460-6863,  jchaplin@southalabama.edu.
