The Department of Radiologic Sciences offers a traditional Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program for those seeking a first or second degree program.  For those who hold ARRT-approved associates or bachelor’s degrees, the dept. offers several programs including 1) a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program, 2) an online Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program, and 3) certification or continuing education opportunities in advanced imaging modalities. ▼   Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences Program
The traditional Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program is designed for:
  • students with a high school diploma seeking a first bachelor's degree.
  • students with a bachelor’s degree in any field other than Radiography seeking a second degree.

This degree program consists of approximately two (2) years of general education and prerequisite courses (pre-professional component) followed by 2 years (6 continuous semesters) of didactic (classroom) and clinical study in Radiologic Sciences (professional component).

At the end of the first year in the professional component (summer semester), students will select one of the three following tracks (4 options) to complete:

  • Track 1 Option 1: General Radiography plus one advanced imaging modality

    Students will study general radiography along with one advanced imaging modality. Advanced modalities include mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), vascular radiography, computed tomography (CT), or radiology administration.

    Junior Year - 38 semester hours
    Senior Year - 38-39 semester hours

    Certification
    Students completing didactic and clinical requirements in this track will be eligible to apply for certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiography and the advanced modality studied (excluding radiology administration). 

  • Track 1 Option 2: General Radiography plus one advanced imaging modality AND Radiology Administration

    Students will study general radiography along with one advanced imaging modality AND radiology administration. Advanced modalities include mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), vascular radiography, or computed tomography (CT).

    Junior Year - 38 semester hours
    Senior Year - 51 semester hours

    Certification
    Students completing didactic and clinical requirements in this track will be eligible to apply for certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiography and the advanced modality studied (excluding radiology administration). 

  • Track 2: Ultrasound Only

    Students will study ultrasound curriculum only.

    Junior Year - 38 semester hours
    Senior Year - 35-41 semester hours

    Certification
    Students who choose this track will not be eligible to seek ARRT certification in radiography, but will be eligible to apply for eligible to apply for ARRT and American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification as an ultrasonographer upon completion of didactic and clinical requirements. 

  • Track 3: Radiation Therapy Only

    Students will study radiation therapy curriculum only.

    Certification
    Students who choose this track will not be eligible to seek ARRT certification in radiography, but will be eligible to apply for ARRT certification in radiation therapy upon completion of didactic and clinical requirements. 

 

▼   Bridge Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences Program for Registered Radiographers
The Bridge Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences program is designed for:
  • Registered Radiographers who do not have a baccalaureate degree.
  • Registered Radiographers who have a baccalaureate degree in a major other than Radiologic Sciences, but choose to seek a second baccalaureate degree in Radiologic Sciences.

The professional component consists of 1 semester of a bridge course (Summer) and 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) of didactic (classroom) and clinical study in Radiologic Sciences. Students accepted into the program may select from the 3 tracks (4 options) listed below for the second professional year of the program.

  • Track 1 Option 1: Two advanced imaging modalities

    Choose two advanced imaging modalities. Modalities require two (2) days of clinic and one (1) hour of classroom lecture per week for each modality. Each modality is taught over three semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) for a total of 6 semester hours per modality and 6 semester hours of clinic per modality. Advanced modalities include mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), vascular radiography, or computed tomography (CT).

    Bridge Course - 6 semester hours
    Second Professional Year - 26 semester hours

    Certification
    Students completing didactic and clinical requirements in this track will be eligible to apply for certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiography and the advanced modality studied. 

  • Track 1 Option 2: One advanced imaging modality AND Radiology Administration

    Choose one advanced imaging modality AND radiology administration. One modality requires two (2) days of clinic and one (1) hour of classroom lecture per week for the modality. The modality is taught over three semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) for a total of 6 semester hours and 6 semester hours of clinic. Advanced modalities include mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), vascular radiography, or computed tomography (CT). Radiology Administration is taught over three semesters (Fall, Spring and Summer). Radiology Administration will require a total of 13 semester hours, with no clinical assignments other than a preceptorship that is required in Summer.

    Students completing didactic and clinical requirements in this track will be eligible to apply for certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiography and the advanced modality studied (excluding radiology administration). 

  • Track 2: Ultrasound Only

    Students will study ultrasound curriculum only. Ultrasound is taught over 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) of didactic (classroom) and clinical study in Radiologic Sciences. Classes and clinical assignments are scheduled Monday – Friday throughout the program.

    Students who choose this track will not be eligible to seek ARRT certification in radiography, but will be eligible to apply for eligible to apply for ARRT and American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification as an ultrasonographer upon completion of didactic and clinical requirements.  

  • Track 3: Radiation Therapy Only

    Students will study radiation therapy curriculum only. Radiation Therapy is taught over 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) of didactic (classroom) and clinical study in Radiologic Sciences. Classes and clinical assignments are scheduled Monday – Friday throughout the program.<

    Students who choose this track will not be eligible to seek ARRT certification in radiography, but will be eligible to apply for ARRT certification in radiation therapy upon completion of didactic and clinical requirements. 

 

▼   Online Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences Program for Registered Radiographers

The Online RT to Bachelor of Science program is designed for:

  • Registered Radiographers without a baccalaureate degree who are searching for an online B.S. in Radiologic Sciences program.
  • Registered Radiographers who have a baccalaureate degree in a major other than Radiologic Sciences, but seek a second baccalaureate degree in Radiologic Sciences that is completely online.

The online option for the Bridge Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences is only available for the Computed Tomography (CT) and Radiology Administration combination. The professional component consists of 1 semester of a bridge course (Summer) and 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) of virtual didactic study in Radiologic Sciences.

Certification
Students completing the didactic component of this track will meet the structured education requirements for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for computed tomography (CT). 

 

▼   Certificate Program for Registered Radiographers
The Radiologic Sciences Certificate program is designed for:
  • Registered Radiographers who wish to study an advanced imaging modality as a means of continuing education.
  • Registered Radiographers who already hold a baccalaureate degree in a major other than Radiologic Sciences and choose to study an advanced imaging modality, without earning a second baccalaureate degree.

The advanced imaging modalities include Mammography, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Vascular Radiography, Radiology Administration, Ultrasound, and Radiation Therapy. 

The three specialization tracks include the following:

  • Track 1: Mammography, CT, MRI, Vascular Radiography, or Radiology Administration

    Mammography, MRI, Vascular Radiography, and CT modalities require two (2) days of clinic and one (1) hour of classroom lecture per week for each modality. Each modality is taught over three semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) for a total of 6 semester hours per modality and 6 semester hours of clinic. Radiology Administration is also taught over three semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer).

    Certification
    Students completing didactic and clinical requirements in this track will be eligible to apply for certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the advanced modality studied (excluding radiology administration).

  • Track 2: Ultrasound

    Ultrasound courses are taught over 3 semesters (Fall, Spring and Summer). Classes and clinical assignments are scheduled Monday – Friday throughout the program.

    Students who choose this track will not be eligible to seek ARRT certification in radiography, but will be eligible to apply for eligible to apply for ARRT and American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification as an ultrasonographer upon completion of didactic and clinical requirements.  

  • Track 3: Radiation Therapy

    Classes and clinical assignments are scheduled Monday – Friday throughout the three-semester program (Fall, Spring and Summer).
